Another few days has passed with no big changes. Both babies are doing well but progress feels slow these days. Our due date has come and gone, and now we really just want to be home. Many of the families that we started this journey with our now home and it's hard to be the ones left behind. Chase is still doing his thing in Level 2. Working on his feeding is our focus right now, he is on 6 oral feeds and 2 tube feeds so we are working on getting rid of that tube! He is still on 75cc of low flow- no changes there until he has mastered the art of eating! They have been talking about Chase coming home on low flow. Once the babies in level 2 are on full oral feeds, have good eyes and no other issues, they are sometimes sent home on oxygen. The only thing for us is that with Reilly still in level 3, Chase would be coming to Ronald McDonald and we aren't too keen on that because I am here alone and would have to brig chase, and his oxygen tank, into the hospital everyday to be with Reilly. Unfortunately Reilly is not ready for a transfer because she is still on high flow, still needs weekly eye exams (Chase too), is only doing 2 oral feeds and may have some follow up at SickKids for her heart. So we don't think they push Chase out too quickly with Reilly still there. If he was our only child, they wouldn't keep him in hospital just because he needs oxygen, they would discharge us at home on low flow and monitor him from there. We are hoping that Reilly will buy us some time for Chase to be weaned from the oxygen. Time will tell. Yesterday a nurse reminded me of just how far they both have come. Like she said they had so many things going against them, triplets, 25 weeks, 500 and 770g - it's amazing they are where they are. Trying to keep that in mind during these days when it feels like not much is changing. Both babies are 7 lbs now and looking cuter than ever. Reilly is working on feeding but she tires easily so we have to take it easy on her. She will get there! It's so funny how different they are. Chase is such a social baby- awake all the time, usually fussing, always hungry and can sense the minute you try to sneak away. Reilly on the other hand, rarely graces us with her beautiful eyes- she is always sleeping! She sleeps while eating, pooping, being examined, being poked or anything! She rarely cries, and is so patient. Thank goodness or else I would be going crazy with two hyper babes! They are both such good babies and we are so blessed! Some babies cry cry cry in the unit and drive us nuts but ours are so good- and so cute. They are looking great. Here are a few pictures from the week. Thanks for all your continued thoughts are prayers. Send Reilly (and Chase) all your positive thoughts for good progress so we can come home. They say we'll be home in time to see the tulips rise. Can't come soon enough!
